How Ya Livin’?

By Carlyn Paschall

Girl, church was good on Sunday!. We danced, shouted and I even fell out in the aisle! So, what was the message about? I don’t even know.  I was just high in the spirit. Ooooh, but did you hear about John? Girl let me tell you… (gossip). Tomorrow they’re having Happy Hour at Pinkies and they have male dancers, a feast for the eyes. You know I’m going (lust). Let me smoke this cigarette right fast, before I get in the car (defiling the temple of the Holy Spirit). Ever had a conversation like these?

Church on Sunday.  Good that you’re going, but how you livin’ the rest of the week? I truly believe God is more concerned with how we live our lives through the week than just on Sunday. Anyone can put on a show for a couple of hours, but what happens when you step outside the church door? How you livin’ then? If you don’t even know what the Word was about, what the Pastor preached, how are you going to at least try and apply it to your life? Are you reading your Word at home or is church the only time you pick up your Bible?  Do you have a quiet time with God? Is the only time you pray when you’re in trouble or want something from the God?  We need to ask ourselves these questions.

I believe it’s time to grow-up and be the spiritually mature Christians God wants us to be. How are we going to make an impact for Him when we are  “playing church”? How are we going to teach new Christians when we’re not living the Word ourselves? When are we going to get serious about our walk? Let’s start to live God’s Word because when we stand before Him, Sister Susie and Brother Pete who fell out in the aisle with us, aren’t going to be there nor is anyone else who saw us dancing and shouting. It’ll just be you and God. If you heard the Word, but didn’t apply it, who do you think is to blame? (let me scoot the mirror over so you can see you).

If you are truly moved by the Spirit to dance, shout and fall out, I’m with you, but don’t do it just for show. Too many people think this is all you need to do to be holy and they live their lives any kind of way. If you and everyone else knows you and your significant other are living in sin and you aren’t even trying to correct the situation, if you know soon as you get out of church you’ll be getting drunk with your boys/girls, if you have road rage that you aren’t even trying to get a handle on (because the other drivers are always wrong), I don’t think falling out in church is going to impress God.  Live holy.  Let the world see a difference in you, not just on Sunday, but all through the week. Matthew 5:16 says “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” #HowYa Livin?

  1. Amen and Amen again. God really is not impressed with our performances. People see the movements, God knows the motives. Keep telling the truth. We need to hear it.

    1. Yes, we must all realize that God, and thank God, looks at our heart. The Word clearly says, “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.” Galatians 6:7 (NKJV). While we can fool people, we can’t fool God.
