Day 5 Proverbs Challenge: Your Own Well

by Sharman J. Monroe

Drink water from your own cistern,
And running water from your own well.

Proverbs 5:15 (NKJV)

Many people say Proverbs 5 addresses adultery. I agree, but its message also relates to other matters. Oftentimes, we compare our lot in life with what we see going on someone else’s life. And when we compare, nine times out ten, we see all the lack in our own life. Envy comes around, gets comfortable in our mind, bringing all kinds of snacks, and cozies down for a long stay. Envy’s friends, hatred and anger, soon follow.

God directs us to drink from our OWN cistern and OWN well. In other words, give attention to your talents and gifts and how you use them to bring glory to God. Give attention to your purpose in life and how it is bringing glory to God. What God has for someone else is for someone else, not for you. In the same vein, what God has for you is for you, not someone else. You are God’s masterpiece. You are the apple of His eye. Your cistern fits you perfectly. Enjoy it!
