Day 8 Proverbs Challenge: Nothing but the Truth

by Sharman J. Monroe

For my mouth will speak truth;
Wickedness is an abomination to my lips.

Proverbs 8:7 (NJKV)

“Do you solemnly swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth so help you God?” This is the oath a witness takes before testifying in court. The court needs to hear the truth so it can come to a fair resolution of the issue at hand. Sometimes the witness tells the whole truth. Sometimes the witness tells the truth — as he or she sees it — and sometimes the witness lies. Very often, we have a problem with telling the truth. It has to fight through fear, doubt, anger, jealousy, unforgiveness, hidden agendas and embarrassment to make it to the light and sometimes it just doesn’t make it. Don’t you wish you could count on people to always be truthful?

You don’t have that problem with God. You can count on Him to always tell the truth. Whether we like it or not, He always tells us like it is because He loves us and wants us to grow into our better selves that He created us to be. God’s truth is found the Bible. He is not like man and doesn’t lie (Num. 23:19). In fact, He hates lies because they destroy love. Lies are tools of Satan that cause fear, doubt, anger, jealousy, unforgiveness, hatred, and suspicion; they destroy us (John 8:44). Focus on what God says. It’s always the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
