“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people.”
Ephesians 1:18 NIV
Have you ever just closed your eyes and meditated? With all the hustle and bustle of the activities of the day, it can be difficult to just silence the noises around us. There’s a saying that the eyes are the windows to your soul. The soul is where your mind, will, and emotions are. Our thoughts and our decisions and feelings dictate what we do in life. For the unsaved person, there is no real direction or purpose to fulfill. For the saved person who has decided to commit his or her soul to the Lord, there is a hope and purpose predetermined by God already. Sometimes we look to others to explain the mysteries of life and reasons why we are here. The book of Ephesians explains and encourages us as believers to understand that we have an inheritance from the Lord and are entitled to wealth and riches in heaven.
You may be wondering how to have access to this inheritance. God sent His son, Jesus, to earth to die for us and give us such access when are adopted into His heavenly family. When you take time to just meditate on God’s Word, and pray that “the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you,” as verse 18 says, then and only then will He reveal, “the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people.” Try opening the eyes of your heart and discover your direction and purpose in Him.
