We were born into this world without survival skills so we are placed in the custody of an adult or adults be it a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, or a foster or adoptive parent. This adult was responsible for nurturing us and teaching us things about life. They taught us to tell the truth, not to steal, to treat others the way we wanted to be treated. They also taught us how to brush our teeth, bathe ourselves, make our beds, wash our clothes, pick friends, think for ourselves and make wise decisions. Everything they taught us was driven by one goal – to produce an adult who is independent from them. An adult who no longer relies on the parent, grandparent, foster parent, adoptive parent, etc. to survive because one day that parent, grandparent, etc. will die and leave.
But with God, it’s different. When we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we are born again. But this time we are born with all the survival skills we need — we have Jesus. We have God. We have the Holy Spirit.
God never leaves or forsakes you. He is with you all the time. God is trustworthy. God is all-knowing, all-powerful and omnipresent. He sees and knows everything. He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. God never lies. Before you speak or act, God already knows what you are going to say and do. And He loves you unconditionally.
His love is so deep and sincere that He sent Jesus to die and atone for all the messed up things you said and did yesterday and will say or do tomorrow. Today, Jesus sits at the right hand of the Father and reminds you, and the enemy, that you are free from the punishment of sin, which is death; your sin debt is paid in full forever. You have eternal live through Jesus. You can do all you need to do in life, no matter how big and hairy it seems, through Jesus. Jesus gave you all power over the enemy.
When you are born again, the Holy Spirit comes to live in you. The Holy Spirit reminds you of God’s Word, gives you guidance on what to do and what not to do.
So how do you tap into your all survival skills? Become dependent on God. While you had to learn to become independent of your parents, grandparents, etc. because they will die and leave you, God won’t die and leave you. Who better to be dependent upon than a Being who is all-knowing, all-powerful and omnipresent? You need to learn to depend on God for everything. You can lean on Him whenever and for as long as you want. Yes, dependence is the opposite of what the world teaches, but the world is opposite of God. Yes, it will take time, but it will be worth it.
Here’s what you can do now. Pick one thing, one situation, one problem in your life right now. Write it down in a Memo to God telling Him what is going on, why it’s a problem and how you are feeling about it. Writing the memo is a sign that you are giving the “thing” to God. Don’t worry about giving God a solution; He’s already worked it out. Create a folder, put the Memo in it and forget about the “thing”. Whenever, you find yourself picking the “thing” back up (worry about it, trying to find figure it out, etc.), read the Memo. Then watch and see what God will do.
All of your survival skills are available to you right now without limits. Yes, it will take time to tap into all of them, but it will be worth it.
So God is the problem . . . or are you?
