Galatians 5:22-23 (NKJV): But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
Recently, I got an “up close and personal” look of how this pandemic is chipping away at good old-fashioned caring. I had a freak accident and took a nasty tumble when my son and I went to a track. We were on opposite ends and he didn’t see me go down. But a couple others did. And did nothing. After rushing to my side to scoop me up, my son said one word when I asked why. “Pandemic.”
That sobering reality almost hurt as much as my swollen foot did . . .almost. I get that during this time many of us are still taking precautionary measures—my son and I included. I get why others on the track may not have gotten right up on me in my distress. What I didn’t get was the seemingly nonexistence of basic caring. Even from their 6 feet +++ social distancing position, they could have acknowledged my predicament and shouted—something: “Are you okay? Badly hurt? Can you move? Do I need to call 911?” But what I got was. . . crickets.
Even when my son rushed to my side to scoop me up and retrieve my phone and glasses, one dude ran right by us with blinders on, never breaking his stride. Neither did the couple walking to the track as I hobbled off. Again, seemingly no concern. Can’t Caution & Concern exist together? I pray so. And let’s not forget Compassion. Yet, I can’t imagine what would’ve happened if I’d been alone. Is this part of the projected new normal?
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love. . . kindness, goodness. . .” (Gal. 5:22)
Especially during this pandemic, what fruit are you bearing?
The Good News: no break, bad sprain. Be back “on track” in a few weeks. My son is an amazing “medical angel”! Love you to life forever, son. ️
Stay safe, healthy, watchful, and prayerful.
